SNOW in JACKMAN

December 04, 2007 | 2 comments

This is a busy time for us trying to move all of this snow around but I did want to get a quick shot out to you all as to the amount of snow we did get overnight. It is difficult to measure around here due to some drifting but I would say at least 18 inches here at Cozy Cove...

Sorry for the darkness of the shot....I had my white balance wrong on the camera but I think you can get the jest of it. Next couple days when I have a little more time I will take some better ones.

Hi Tami,

It is not your white balance that is the problem. You have underexposed the picture. Your camera meter is calibrated to see the world as 18% gray. When you take pictures of snow, makes snow grey - since it dominates the scene. You must tell the camera to increase the exposure when photographing snow, by either manually setting your aperture and shutter speed, or by telling the camera to increase the exposure by 1 1/2 to 2 stops . It depends on what you are comfortable doing and what features your camera has.

Hope that helps!
